WEEKLY BRIGHT SPOTS

🐣 Hope inside Easter baskets

A 12-year-old boy named Nathan Yuill, who is being treated for stage 4 lymphoma, decided to help other children spending Easter in the hospital. He organized a fundraiser with his family and raised more than $2,000 in just one day. With that money, he and his community put together 124 Easter baskets filled with small gifts and treats. Nathan personally helped deliver the baskets to children at Providence Children’s Hospital and the Alaska Native Medical Center. Hospital staff said the baskets gave young patients a sense of normalcy and a chance to enjoy the holiday despite being sick. His effort came from his own experience as a patient and his desire to make other kids feel a little happier during a difficult time.

🐢 Turtle rescue

A critically endangered hawksbill sea turtle was found stranded and extremely weak on an Australian beach, covered in barnacles and unable to survive on its own. Rescuers brought the turtle to a wildlife refuge, where they carefully cleaned her shell, provided food, and monitored her condition over several weeks. At first, her recovery was uncertain, but with consistent care she gradually regained strength and began to improve. Hawksbill turtles have declined by about 80% over recent generations, which made her recovery especially meaningful for the species. Her release was a small but real step toward supporting a species that depends on careful conservation and human intervention to survive.

The Drink Everyone’s Reaching For This Spring 🍸

Spring doesn’t have to mean a packed schedule and another drink you regret tomorrow.

This season, I’m reaching for something different: Vesper by Pique.

Pique is known for blending ancient botanicals with modern science to create elevated wellness essentials. Vesper might be my favorite yet. It’s a non-alcoholic, adaptogenic aperitif that delivers the relaxed, social glow of a cocktail. Without alcohol or the next-day fog.

It’s what I pour when I want something special in my glass on a bright spring evening. Each sip feels celebratory and uplifting. Relaxed body. Clear mind. No haze. No sleep disruption.

Crafted with L-theanine, lemon balm, gentian root, damiana, and elderflower, Vesper is sparkling, tart, and beautifully herbaceous.

If you’re ready for a new kind of happy hour, try Vesper here. 🌿

🍎 Safe inside an Applebee’s

At an Applebee’s in Three Rivers, Michigan, a normal afternoon shifted quickly when a tornado warning became a real and immediate threat. Manager Aubrey McKenzie noticed the danger and moved fast, guiding about 50 customers and staff into the restaurant’s windowless prep kitchen, the safest place available. Before taking shelter herself, she also brought in a man sitting in a truck with his dog and a young boy waiting outside so they wouldn’t be left exposed. The group stayed together in the kitchen for several minutes as the storm passed, with strong winds and debris hitting the building. When it was over, parts of the restaurant were damaged, but the structure held and no one inside was injured. Her quick, organized response ensured that everyone nearby had a place to shelter in time. The moment shows how steady decision-making and a sense of responsibility can quietly protect many people in a crisis.
