For the past two years, 11-year-old Nehemiah Turner has visited the Jacksonville Humane Society in Florida to read books aloud to dogs and cats waiting to be adopted. Nehemiah hopes his quiet reading sessions help the animals feel calmer and more comfortable while they wait for permanent homes. One dog he especially loved reading to, Hopper, was eventually adopted after spending nearly 400 days at the shelter.

Five-year-old Emma Meline of Pleasant Grove, Utah, was diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia after her parents noticed unusual bruising on her legs just before Christmas 2025. Doctors determined that she needed a bone marrow transplant, and testing revealed that her 2-year-old sister, Lucy, was a perfect match. Although she was very young, Lucy proudly told her family she was “being brave for Emma” as she donated bone marrow to help her sister. Emma received her transplant in February 2026, returned home the following month, and successfully passed the important first 100 days of recovery without major complications. Today, she is continuing to heal, enjoying everyday childhood activities again while remaining under careful medical care. Their story is a touching reminder of the remarkable love that can exist between siblings and the life-changing impact of organ and bone marrow donation.
👋 A Stranger Who Stopped to Care
While riding his bike in Gilbert, Arizona, 14-year-old Royal Cothrun noticed an elderly woman walking alone in 103-degree heat who appeared confused and exhausted. She had dementia and had unknowingly wandered miles from home after becoming disoriented. Royal helped her into the shade, spoke with her patiently, and stayed calm until she was able to remember her son’s phone number so he could call for help. He remained with her until her family and emergency responders arrived, making sure she was safe. Her son believes Royal’s kindness and quick thinking may have saved her life. The story is a meaningful reminder that paying attention to someone who seems to need help can make an extraordinary difference.
